Synopsis
Debut new adult author S.C. Ellington knocks it out of the park with this steamy contemporary romance. After a horrific breakup with her longtime boyfriend, Brooklyn Caldwell is completely disenchanted with the notion of mingling with the opposite sex. Damon Williams had been everything she thought she wanted…until he wasn’t. In an attempt to escape her heartbreaking past, Brooklyn seeks refuge in bustling Washington, D.C. where she folds into the fast-paced society unnoticed…until she meets a young entrepreneur, Logan Colton. Brooklyn is surprised to find that while she has been successful in keeping the opposite sex at bay, somehow she is defenseless against Logan’s confidence and charm—and it doesn’t hurt that he is absurdly beautiful. As much as Logan didn’t plan on pursuing her, he is drawn to Brooklyn’s muted beauty and her witty persona. For all his success, Logan is ensnared in the coveted world of unequivocal wealth and power, but behind closed doors is taunted by his own demons and an undeniable need to atone for a monumental mistake. As the two embark on a tumultuous obstacle course saturated with unknown twists and turns, Brooklyn is left to question whether she can endure the journey ahead.

*****EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH LOGAN COLTON ABOUT BROOKLYN*****

1.Brooklyn is a fighter and I love her for that.
2.She doesn’t like being told what to do. Then again, what woman does?
3.She talks a good game, but she’s the sweetest girl I’ve ever met.
4.Brooklyn is one of the most loyal people I’ve ever met. I’m confident she’ll be with me until the end. 5.She loves Starburst.
6.She is a good singer…I caught her singing in the shower once…although I wasn’t listening to her voice much. I was too busy looking at her, oops, probably shouldn’t have said that.
7.I always drive because I fear that she is a horrible driver. I’m not chauvinistic or anything, but everybody knows driving on the west coast is drastically different than driving on the east coast.
8.She is an AMAZING cook. My mom always told me and Scott to date women that know how to cook. I'm glad I finally took my mom's advice.
9.She hates when I watch her get dressed. Her self consciousness makes me laugh…I nearly died the time I caught her squatting in her jeans to make them zip!

  1. She talks in her sleep. Scary! I thought I had problems!
  2. One thing is for sure, B might have some strange things about her, but truth be told, I love every one of them.

EXCERPT

Connor tried to look busy as Alana browsed the bookshelves. The woman had definitely changed. Though he was two years older than she was, he remembered her from high school. They’d been a lot alike back then, both of them with their noses always stuck in books, not quite fitting in with the rest. The similarities should have made them friends, but as a teen, he hadn’t had the nerve to talk to a girl, even an equally unpopular one. He vaguely remembered her coming into the store those afternoons when he worked in the back unpacking boxes of new books and sorting them to put on the shelves. He’d been enchanted by her, watching surreptitiously from behind the shelves. How animated she’d become when she’d talk to Dad about the current book she was reading or about the places she’d like to visit. He would stand hidden in the back, just listening to her voice, but too shy to even consider joining the discussions. He’d really liked the girl she’d become when she visited the shop back then—a girl who was nothing like the cowering mouse he saw at school each day. Somehow, he didn’t think unpopularity would be her problem now. She was the perfect woman—smart, extremely sexy with or without the leather, and for goodness’ sake, she rode a motorcycle. She exuded confidence and poise, and wasn’t afraid to take risks; just look at the way she’d been blatantly flirting with him. Despite his best effort, he was having a hard time controlling his body. Of all the days to wear jeans that were a touch too tight. If he didn’t get his eyes off her cute little derriere, he’d humiliate himself. She was affecting him far more deeply than he’d expected. He took a deep breath, forcefully tore his eyes away from her leather-clad bottom, and returned to sorting the new shipment of books that had just arrived.

CHARACTER BIOS

Alana Stewart is the eldest in her family. She’s 28, almost 29 and has one sister, Melody. Alana is a lawyer with a firm in Austin, Texas. She’s one hundred percent dedicated to her job and that’s put her on the fast track for a junior partnership, something she wants more than anything. When she isn’t arguing cases in court or working on briefs, Alana likes to ride her motorcycle. The wind in her face is the only way she can relax. She left her hometown of Chance, Arizona, ten years ago and hasn’t been back since. Growing up as a bookish nerd, her memories of her small hometown aren’t pleasant ones, and combined with a overprotective mother, Alana has no desire to return to the gossip and limitations of small town living. The only reason she’s come back this year is because she was guilted into it by her mother. This’ll be her niece’s first Christmas she’ll remember and Mom wants her home for a traditional Stewart Christmas. Alana reluctantly agreed and rode her motorcycle from Austin to Chance. She plans to blow this Popsicle stand as soon as she can. She’s home for this year, but she has no intention of ever coming back.

Connor Tate grew up in Chance, Arizona, and after a few years away, he realized there’s nowhere else on earth he’d rather be. When he left the big city and returned home, he took over as manager of Tate’s Bookstore, the small independent bookstore owned by his father. He loves his job. His parents travel extensively, so, despite the fact that he’s in his early thirties, he lives in the family home with them, looking after the house and grounds when they’re away. He’s also a volunteer fireman. He loves helping others. When he needs to clear his head, he rides his motorcycle out into the Sonora Desert, to a special place he loved where he can be alone and relax. Connor as a secret. In addition to his duties as bookstore manager, he’s also reclusive best-selling author J.T. Connor. No one in Chance, other than his immediate family, knows his secret identity and like Superman, he wants to keep it that way. He’s avoided getting involved with any of the local ladies—too much danger messing in your own sandbox. When he needs female companionship, he takes a holiday, but Chance always calls him back.

AUTHOR BIO

Misty Matthews is a newly formed writing partnership between Susanne Matthews and Misty Cail. These authors have never met and the book was created by grace and virtue of email and Internet chats. It's a true Twenty-first century miracle. Misty and Susanne met in an online Facebook chat group back in December, 2012 and have become fast friends and partners. Misty, the plot genius, had the idea for the book, but found it hard to do the research and polishing necessary for the story. Susanne loved the premise of the story and offered to handle that aspect of it in partnership with her. The name seemed a natural choice. The rest as they say is history. When Front Porch Romance offered them their first contract, they actually spoke by phone for the first time, cementing a working relationship they hope will go on for years to come. While both authors will continue to write solo, watch for more books and short stories from the duo.

Maggie Thom

He didn’t commit suicide but who’s going to believe her...
Frustrated at being fired from her latest job and overwhelmed by her consolatory family, Sam decides to move to the family’s cabin at the lake. A place she hasn’t been since her dad committed suicide there twenty years before. Or did he? Snooping is something she’s good at but someone seems to be taking offence to her looking too closely at what has been happening at the lake. What she discovers is shocking. Now she must uncover what’s real and what’s not. All that she learned growing up, may be false. Keegan, who has recently moved to the area, to finish his latest book is also trying to find out if his grandfather, who’d passed away ten years before, died of natural causes or was murdered? The descendants of the four families who own the land around the lagoon are dying off. Since Sam and Keegan are the only ones questioning the deaths, they find themselves working together to seek the truth. Are people being murdered? Who would benefit from their deaths? Why would there be barricades and armed guards at the north end of the lake? To stay alive, Sam and Keegan must find the answers and convince others, before more people are killed... including them.

Maggie Thom's Bio

Maggie Thom made the hard decision to freefall, leaving her successful, twenty year career in management, to follow her dream and passion to write full time. The leap has been adventurous and very enlightening. A long-time reader and writer, she was thrilled with the release of her first novel, Captured Lies in the fall of 2012 and her second novel, Tainted Waters released April 30th, 2013. She is busy writing her third novel, Deceitful Truths to be published late 2013 or early 2014. Having married her best friend, she is learning that humor, love and patience, help her navigate her way through her twins’ teen years.

“We have to report it.”
“And how are we going to say we found it. We just happened to be snooping ourselves when someone came and ransacked the place. Oh yeah and by the way he was wearing a black baseball cap and he had a great, no let me correct that, a verrrryyyyyy gooooooddddd body.”
“We don’t even know it was him. Why would he come back and rip the place apart. If he was looking for something, why not the first time he was here?” She glared at him as he grabbed her arm and pulled her outside. She jerked out of his grasp.
“Maybe it wasn’t him but that doesn’t mean I want to stick around and see if he comes back.”
“Just let me look around and see if I can tell what they took. You watch for vehicles.”
The mulish look on his face let her know he didn’t like the plan but he wasn’t going to stop her. She waited until he was in place watching the driveway, then she kicked off her shoes and entered. Books from the shelves were strewn about, some of them even ripped in half. Newspapers had been taken from her neat stack of recycling and were torn up, shredded. The couch had been flipped, the lamp overturned and the stuffing had been ripped out of the pillows. The place looked like a bunch of wild animals had been locked in and had gone berserk looking for food or a way out. The scene brought tears to her eyes. It just wasn’t right. Mrs. MacNeil never hurt anyone.
She stepped forward carefully trying to avoid any broken glass. She lifted some of the debris off the floor to see if there was anything under it. It sounded super noisy to her every time she moved. Every few seconds she was glancing over her shoulder to make sure that no one was there.
It didn’t make sense. All she could think was don’t let it be one of her children.
“Come on. Let’s get out of here. This isn’t worth it. Let’s go.”
With one last look around she reluctantly walked out the door, locking it behind her. Not caring that he saw her, she opened the panel under the deck and slid the spare key onto the hidden nail. Obviously someone had their own set anyway. That thought made her nervous. She only knew of a handful of people who had the key to that place.
“Your place or mine?”
It was too much to take in. She couldn’t respond she just headed off through the trees to the path. He followed but they continued on in silence, accompanied by the shrill tweets and chirps of birds as they headed to her family’s cabin. When they reached the end point of the lake, the path swung back towards the pond, allowing them a clear view for a short while. It made her think of her phone. It had vibrated earlier when they’d left Keegan’s and were walking along the lake. Curious as to who called, she pulled it out. There was a missed call and a text. They were from DD.
M :( u.
Sam knew that to mean Shelley was mad at her. Listening to her message she understood why. Taking a chance that DD still had the cell phone she quickly dialled her brother’s number.
“Asaaaaaaam. Asaaaaammmmmm. Aaaaaasssssaaaaaaaaaammmmmm.” DD started blubbering out stuff that Sam couldn’t understand.
“Ssssshhhh. Stop. Ssshhhh. I need you to stop.” Sam repeated this a few more times, speaking softly. DD finally snivelled, indicating she was calmer now.
“You sound funny. What’s up?”
“Cold.”
“You’re cold... oh you have a cold.” Oh no. No wonder Shelley had a bee in her butt.

“Mom’s mad. Said your fault. I can’t see you.” She started to cry, a loud wailing sound. Sam winced, sure that it would make things worse.

Mr. Sommervold pushed up his round wire-rimmed glasses. She’d already noticed that they had a tendency to slide down his nose.

“I’m not leaving without answers.”

The door opened, his assistant, a stunning auburn-haired woman, poked her head in. “Mr. Sommervold, the Greenings are here. They have a few things they’d like to discuss with you before the funeral this afternoon.”
Solemn-faced, he nodded then turned to face Bailey. “I don’t know who paid for it. Mr. Lund sent me a letter requesting all that she wanted for a funeral. He also provided a second letter.” He opened the folder in front of him, pulled out an envelope, closed the file and dropped it into the bottom drawer of his desk. After a short hesitation, he slid the envelope across to Bailey.
She stared at him for a full minute before reaching out and picking it up. Her name was scrawled across it in her mother’s handwriting. She pressed it between her palms.
“I’m sure this will answer some of your questions. For any others you have, you’ll need to talk to Mr. Lund. Here’s his business card.”
Bailey stared at the envelope. Would it give her the answers she needed?
“Now if you’ll excuse me. I have other clients I need to see.”
She jerked up her head. Mr. Sommervold was standing in the open doorway, obviously waiting for her to leave. A bit dazed, she stood and walked past him to the main foyer, where she stopped.
Everything seemed surreal. Even the rich, immaculate oak entranceway was too perfect, too daunting. Soft hymn music drifted through the building. Quiet voices, whispered, reverent tones heard only at solemn times, drifted to her. They made everything more unreal.
She felt like a character in dream. A bad one. An unexpected shiver shook her out of her reverie.
She strode out of the building to her rented Hyundai. Once inside she stared at the paper clenched in her left hand. There were designs and pictures all over the back of the envelope. Many would dismiss them as doodles but Bailey knew better. She just wasn’t prepared to decipher what her mom couldn’t tell her straight out. Tracing her finger absently over the heart that had three stick figures within it made her pause, for it looked like a family.
Are you saying you’d wished Dad had been in my life? Whoever he was.

Teaser 2

EXCERPT

He sits in front of me and brings me to his chest. Our flesh is hot and sticky where it touches and I can’t stop the ache between my legs. His breathing is ragged and he tightens his grip on the back of my head as he tries to slow it. I am hurt or angry or frustrated, but I don’t know which. He runs his hands along my entire body and I push against him, needing him and not knowing how to accept his denial.
‘I want you, Nora. I have wanted you since I saw you. You are gorgeous. However, there are secrets that... Please understand, the steps that you want to take will reveal things. This cannot end well for either of us. I don’t want to make you suffer, but I am fated to suffer. Don’t make me bring you with me into the darkness. I can’t bear to lose you.’
I sense the pain that grips him. The darkness that he speaks of sounds frightening, but I don’t feel fear when I face him and meet his eyes. ‘I will follow you anywhere. Dark or light. Stop trying to make my choices for me.’
Our lips meet again, but it is with doubt. Neither of us knows what will happen if we are to move forward, but I want to have a chance to find out.
My body is still crying out for him but now my mind is calm. I want him, but I want him when he knows that I’m ready for whatever that means. His hands touch me and his caresses are soft. We both slow our breathing and I try to let my will match his. When he pulls away, he gathers the picnic and looks at me with longing and a hunger I do not recognize. It’s not sexual, but desperate. Almost as a dying man looks in the last moments of his life.
‘In three days,’ he says, ‘I will meet you again at the church where we first met. In the meantime, I want you to look something up — and if you do not appear at the church, I’ll know that what you found changed everything.’
‘Okay,’ I say warily. I’ll do anything he asks, but his fear scares me. What kind of secrets can he possibly hold? Little right now could stop me from going to him in three days.
‘Find the name Charles Samuels. He was an Oxford student in the 1960s. And then we shall see how much of the darkness you are willing to face.’
‘I’ll look him up, but Alec, I’m going to be at the church in three days,’ I say.
‘For your sake, Nora, I hope that you’re not.’

Lovers Unchained excerpt (Cole and Jude)
The wink Cole gave Jude pissed him off thoroughly. He felt his eyes changing, turning red.
Cole laughed at him. Rest assured my friend, I do not make love to men.”
Cole dunked under the water and swam to the other side of the pool. He picked up a bar of black soap and lathered his chest.
Jude turned to the side; refusing to watch another man bathe. He picked up a bar of soap and lathered his arms. Both men bathed in silence for a while.
“So, how long have you been in here?” Cole asked, splashing water on his face.
Jude ignored him and dunked under the water washing the soap from his hair. When he came up, he shook the water out of his hair and walked out of the pool. There was no towel, he would have to drip dry in front of a man. Jude chose to wait in a stall along the wall instead. The curtain enclosing the stall was sheer; Jude saw out and the vampire could see in.
“We should go over our strategy for today,” Cole yelled.
Jude felt he would be killing the vampire soon. If he knew Lana, she was planning on forcing the leech on him.
“What do we need a strategy for?” Jude asked, not knowing if he really wanted to hear what the vamp would say. Cole’s voice had a slight accent to it. He sounded like he spent too much time in the French part of the Mortal Realm.
“From what I’ve gathered, Lana is a particular woman. She likes things done a certain way. If we’re going to pleasure her together, I think we need to come up with a plan.”
Jude snorted, “I have no desire to pleasure Lana. So, you can plan and strategize all by yourself. Leave me out of it.” Jude had a mate to see to freedom. A vamp with red eyes could not help them.
Cole dunked under the water again; when he came up, his eyes shined redder than before. “How long have you been cursed?” Cole asked.
Jude opened the curtain.
“What curse?”
“The curse of the Dark Witch.”

Racing against time and deadly enemies, will Cora find her mate in Liam, or will all be lost? Will she be able to find herself in this new world and make it to the ceremony that will restore her powers, or will their enemies win, putting the world’s future at stake?

“Who are you?” Cora asked after they’d been sitting there for a few minutes.
“My name is Liam,” he replied.
“Liam, I’m Cora and that’s my sister, Viola.”
      “I know,” Liam told her.
“How do you know who we are and where we live?” Cora asked. She knew that she should have known he would know who they were, since he’d been in their room looking for them, and had known who Patrick and Anna were, but adrenaline was making her thoughts scattered.
“You will get answers to your questions Cora, just not now. Right now we have to focus on getting where we’re going, without Patrick catching us. I need you to trust me for now, so I can concentrate on protecting you and Viola,” Liam bit out, a little impatient. He wanted to explain things but knew that if he did, he’d be in deep trouble. It was not his place. He had his orders. Oh, but for her, he wanted to defy his orders and answer her questions. He wanted to soothe away the stress lines that had formed on her beautiful face.
“You keep saying that. It’s getting on my nerves. I have no reason to trust or believe you. Why should I?” Cora responded. Her nerves were wound tight and it was evident in her voice.
“I know you don’t, yet, but you’re going to have to,” Liam responded, with a calmness that he wasn’t feeling. She was beginning to irritate him and the urge to tranq her, like they’d done with Viola, was getting stronger by the minute, but the attraction that he felt for her kept him from harming her in any way.
“Don’t even think about it!” Cora exclaimed a bit louder than she’d wanted to.
Liam’s head snapped around to look at her. His eyes narrowed while he studied her. There was no way that she was in his head. “Think about what?”
“Doing to me what you did to Viola,” Cora responded with an angry glare in his direction. “I could see it written all over your face that you were considering it and I won’t let you.”
“Care to tell me how you are going to stop me if I decide that I’m going to?” Liam asked with slight amusement, that he didn’t feel, lacing his voice. How did she do that? He knew that he’d kept his face blank.
“Trust me, you don’t want to know. Now, since there’s no sign of Patrick, can we go?” Cora asked getting impatient. All of a sudden she felt the need to move before something bad happened.
